Our town - Godalming. Real voices and shared experiences.

We are storytellers, and with Our Town – Godalming, we turned our attention to the place we call home, Godalming. Inspired by Thornton Wilder's timeless classic, this contemporary reimagining has been shaped by our ensemble through a process of research, collaboration, and discovery. Rather than simply retelling a familiar story, we set out to create an intergenerational project, to uncover the people, memories, and moments that make Godalming unique.

Drawing on conversations with residents, visits to libraries, history groups, and care homes, alongside countless hours spent exploring the town's streets, Our Town – Godalming is woven from real voices and shared experiences, a true community project. Looking back at life in the early twentieth century while embracing the stories of those who live here today, the production celebrated the rich tapestry of a community that continues to evolve across generations.

The production premiered in our own STUDIO816 before touring to local schools, with excerpts performed in a local care home closing with a performance in our local church, truly putting ClassAction at the heart of the community here in Godalming.

At its heart, Our Town – Godalming reminds us that extraordinary stories are often found in ordinary lives. It is a celebration of community, connection, and the everyday moments that shape us. Through humour, music, memory, and reflection, the production invites audiences to pause, look more closely at the world around them, and recognise the beauty and value of the lives we share.
